KATE GOOSEN | PRINCIPAL DESIGNER
“Every room needs a touch of black just as it needs at least one antique piece.”
My interior design journey began at Fox Browne Creative as a technical designer, after completing a Bachelor’s degree in Environmental and Geographical Science and a Postgraduate Diploma in Management at UCT, followed by a Bachelor’s in Interior Design (with distinction) from GDC. Over the years, I’ve grown into the role of principal designer, leading our Johannesburg team of designers and guiding projects from concept through to technical detailing, project management, and final installation. I work closely with the team, coordinating between architecture, interiors, and operations to ensure every project is carried through with intention and care.
I’ve had the privilege of designing and managing projects across South Africa, Kenya, Zambia, and Mauritius — from refurbishments to greenfield builds in Laikipia and South Luangwa. Whether it’s a hotel in Nairobi or a bush camp in North Luangwa, I believe every space deserves thoughtful attention and creativity. Two standout projects for me recently have been Chichele Presidential Lodge in Zambia and the award-winning andBeyond Suyian Lodge in Kenya.
Collaboration is central to my process. Working alongside our interiors and operations teams, and sourcing from local artisans in remote locations, allows me to bring depth and authenticity to each design. I love giving existing spaces new life and finding beauty in what already has a story. Repurposing original furniture doesn’t just reduce waste — it brings continuity, warmth, and soul to a place.
