andBeyond - Bateleur Camp - Masai Mara, Kenya

Together with Julia Williams of Imprint Architecture, we believe we have created a modern yet "classic safari" experience while maintaining the soul and patina of the original lodge.

THE BRIEF

Fox Browne Creative originally conceptualised Bateleur Camp in 1999 working with Nicholas Plewman Architects.

In 2017 we were tasked to re-imagine this much-loved lodge, together with Julia Williams of Imprint Architecture, retaining the spirit of the existing camp and not sacrificing any of its soul or original antique and vintage pieces.

THE INSPIRATION

The inspiration was a classic East African safari. For this project, we decided not to push the proverbial design envelope and instead hold the lodge in the classic safari space with subtle modern surprises here and there. The food concept and styling we developed are classic safari, wholesome and simple.

THE RESULT

Together with Julia Williams of Imprint Architecture, we believe we have created a modern yet "classic safari" experience while maintaining the soul and patina of the original lodge. The appointment of all spaces caters to all modern traveller needs, yet it is authentic and intimate at the same time.

The result is a place that really does feel like home.
