andBeyond - Phinda Forest Lodge - Phinda Private Game Reserve, South Africa

There are subtle references to Zulu Culture with artfully displayed Cecil Skotnes lithographs commemorating the death of King Shaka.

THE BRIEF

The iconic Phinda Forest Lodge was initially designed and built in 1994 by Ridler Shepherd Low Architects. This multi-award winning lodge has only had one soft refurbishment in 2006 with another planned in 2020.

THE INSPIRATION

The buildings were designed to disappear into the rare sand veld forest giving guests a 360degree view of the ancient trees. Nature played a huge role in the inspiration. There are subtle references to Zulu Culture with artfully displayed Cecil Skotnes lithographs commemorating the death of King Shaka.

THE RESULT

Although this lodge has stood the test of time, Fox Browne Creative will undertake the latest renovation in 2020 which will see nature playing an even more prominent role in the interior architecture and soft furnishings.
